PhD Milestone – Congratulations Dr. Christian Rude!

The Tanguay Lab is proud to celebrate a major academic achievement by Christian Rude, who successfully defended his PhD dissertation titled:
“A Multifaceted Approach to Resolve Retene and PAH Mixture Toxicity” on February 28th, 2025.

Christian joined the lab in Spring 2021 as part of the Oregon State University Superfund Research Program. His work has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) toxicity. Through a combination of RNA sequencing, dosimetry modeling, and developmental toxicity assays in zebrafish, Christian’s research provided new insights into the mechanisms driving PAH mixture toxicity — a critical step toward improving predictive toxicology models.

We are excited to share that Christian will continue his research journey at Oregon State University as a post-doctoral researcher in Dr. Gerrad Jones’ lab. His postdoctoral work will focus on nontarget chemical analysis, specifically investigating PFAS contamination from AFFF exposure and identifying chemical drivers of antimicrobial resistance in wastewater treatment plants — two environmental challenges with global health implications.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Christian Rude on this remarkable achievement. We look forward to seeing the impact of his continued research!
